Update on Kuali Financial System (KFS) Implementation at IU
Indiana University has officially kicked off the implementation project of the Kuali Financial System (KFS). KFS will replace the FIS and EPIC systems, providing a comprehensive suite of functionality that will serve all of Indiana University’s financial business needs. The Kuali project started over four years ago as a community source initiative. KFS is a rewrite of Indiana University’s FIS and EPIC systems using newer technology.Nine institutions in total have participated in the rewrite of the system which will be implemented across the country at other institutions of higher education, including in the next year full implementations by Colorado State University and the University of Arizona.
KFS will bring change in structure, look, and feel to IU’s financial systems, involving the need for major testing of all functionalities and components, data conversion from the existing systems, and many decisions to be made to ensure that the KFS has all of the functionality to which IU users are accustomed and which the university’s policies and practices require departments to have.
An IU KFS Steering Committee has been formed and will serve the role of providing input on some functionality and priorities, and serving as a communication engine for information back to the campuses, schools, and departments.
